The Autosleeper Ravenna Basics
‘THE AUTOSLEEPER RAVENNA RATES HIGHLY IN ITS FOUR-BERTH COACHBUILT CLASS.’
The coachbuilt Autosleeper Ravenna motorhome is based on the much loved Ford Transit. You have the choice of three 2.4-litre Di turbo diesel powerplants, one offering 115PS, another producing 125PS and a third offering an output of 135PS. Choose either of the two less powerful engines and the Autosleeper Ravenna comes with a five-speed manual transmission but with the 135PS unit there’s a choice. Buyers have the option of sticking with the standard 6-speed manual transmission or have Ford’s Durashift automatic gearbox fitted.
As you would expect with the Transit, it handles well and you have the added security of ABS braking. With the Transit’s inherently good ride and driving characteristics, you’ll be pleased to know that body-roll of the Autosleeper Ravenna doesn’t really set in until you’re really motoring along twisty roads in extremis, but then, that’s not really what touring in a motorhome is all about, is it.
First Impressions of the Ravenna
The Autosleeper Ravenna seems both spacious and luxurious when compared to rivals in this price range. As usual with Autosleepers products, quality of construction is well up to scratch, both outside and within.
The Autosleeper Ravenna feels spacious and airy due to an attractive interior design. The contoured cabinetwork is particularly appealing with its light natural wood finish. Externally, the glassfibre coachwork sides and the one-piece roof are bonded together beautifully. It should prove durable, too.
The stereo radio CD player in the Autosleeper Ravenna sounds great and the driver’s seat should prove comfortable enough for many miles of touring. There’s a choice of attractive upholstery fabrics to consider and the natural wood finish on the continental style furniture is pleasing to the eye.
Practicalities in the Ravenna
Hot water and air-heating in the Autosleeper Ravenna is supplied by Truma’s popular systems, so you’re unlikely to have any headaches there. When it comes to storage, Auto-Sleeper have provided the Autosleeper Ravenna with plenty of roof lockers and a larger compartment under the rear lounge sofa/bed. Access to this useful space is via an external hatch. There is mains charging for the secondary battery with 12v split relay and you’ll find two 230v electrical sockets and one 12v inside. The external locker in the Autosleeper ravenna for the gas bottles contains two 7kg cylinders so there’s a good level of capacity there for longer holidays..
Living Conditions in the Ravenna
Step up into the Autosleeper Ravenna through the nearside main door and you’ll find the cab immediately to your left. Opposite the door is the washroom and to your right the kitchen is located. At the back of the vehicle there’s the L-shaped lounge with its sofa. A sculptured removable dining table is provided in the Autosleeper Ravenna for mealtimes and to boost levels of ambient light and help ventilation, there’s a Heki rooflight fitted over the lounge.
The television cabinet in the Autosleeper Ravenna comes complete with a pull-out table. Interior lighting is first-class and comes courtesy of a mix of fluorescent lights, downlighters and halogen reading lamps. You’ll find no dark corners in here.
Cooking, Sleeping and Washing
The kitchen in the Autosleeper Ravenna comes complete with a three-burner stainless steel hob complete with electric plate, grill and oven. The stainless steel sink and drainer is supplied with a dual fold cover and there’s an extra hinged extension to the worktop, too. The tilt-tolerant ‘Dometic’ refrigerator in the Autosleeper Ravenna has a useful 77-litres of space along with a full width freezer compartment. A dedicated storage unit is provided with enough space for crockery for four.
As far as the beds are concerned in the Autosleeper Ravenna, the L-shaped lounge settee converts into a comfortable large double and if further night-time accommodation is needed, there’s a good-sized overcab bed for two.
When it’s time to use the Autosleeper Ravenna washroom you’ll find that it’s well-appointed and reasonably spacious. It features an electric-flush swivelling cassette toilet, a contoured hand basin and an integral dressing light and vanity unit. The only real minus point is that there’s no separate shower compartment.
The Autosleeper Ravenna can be described as very good value for money. It’s well-constructed, durable and is definitely worth considering if you have this kind of money to spend. This model rates as one of the top contenders in its four-berth coachbuilt class.
