They say they have a buyer -
There is a scam in place where people call you up and say that they have a few local
people wanting what you have advertised. For them to sell the item you have advertised
they will ask you for about £80 (this varies from company to company). You will
never hear anything back from them and will have lost your money. They are very
convincing and will often tell you that they will have it sold within a few days.
Some will also offer a full refund when they sell, explaining that they make their
money from the buyer taking out a credit agreement with them.

Paying by Cheque - In an
older scam, a potential buyer will ask you if you will accept a cheque drawn on
a UK bank. The cheque will be for more than the item you are selling, so they will
ask you to wait until it clears, then transfer the balance into their account. About
3 days after the cheque has cleared, the bank will inform you that it is a fake
cheque and withdraw the money. You will then be out of pocket the amount you transferred
to them and if they arrange to collect the item then you will also have lost that.
This is a sample cheque I received from someone who wanted
to buy a van I never even advertised (On caravan selecta we filter emails and I
got their address from a batch that had been filtered out). I sent them an email
saying that the best price was £5,000 and that it was in good condition. Once I
received the cheque, they were constantly calling asking if i had banked it and
could I transfer the £500 to their account. The cheque did look very realistic,
even down to the perforations on the left hand side.

Paying by Moneygram - (Also
see the next one down) There is a new scam where the seller asks you to pay by moneygram,
and they will have the van sent to you for a 5 day inspection. Although there is
no proof that this is a scam, I can only assume that it is because of the emails
I have had from suspicious users of the site about it.

a user of the site suspected as being a scammer (Yes the advert was removed!!)

You can't view the camper because now I am not home in England and I left the camper
in the custody of a shipping company when i was leaving from there. I only must
to call at this shipping company and to give them the name and adress where the
camper must to be shipped. The total price is £1.700 and I paid the shipping taxes.
You will must to send the money and in 1-2 days you will receive the camper at your
home adress and I will give you free time 5 days to inspect the camper. If is any
problem i will send your money back and you will return the camper.

Paying by Moneygram - Version 2
You may be asked to transfer the money to a friend to prove that you have
the funds. You will then be asked to send your moneygram receipt to confirm the
money is there. This receipt hold all the information that is required by the scammer
to get the money.

Invoicing through Caravan Selecta -
Caravan Selecta do NOT send invoices out and hold payment for clients. Some
scammers claim that we will invoice you and hold the money while you inspect the
caravan. They then make up an invoice to look like it has come from us, but in reality,
you will be sending the money to the scammer.
